From February 2–4, 2025, Lasallian educators gathered at the Bon Secours Retreat and Conference Center in Marriottsville, Maryland, for the Adrien Nyel Retreat. Designed for new teachers, the retreat provided an opportunity to reflect on their vocation, deepen their commitment to Lasallian education and evangelization, and foster a spirit of association.
Stepping away from their daily responsibilities, participants found rest and renewal. The retreat opened with a welcoming prayer, introductions, and a panel discussion on the vocational journey of teaching, moderated by Ernest J. Miller, FSC. The evening concluded with night prayer and a social gathering.
The second day featured engaging sessions, including “Reflections Beyond Methodology” and “Innovation and Teaching,” led by Steve Horvath and Robert Johnson. Attendees also participated in reflective sessions such as “Story and the Vocation to Teach” by Br. Ernest Miller, FSC, and “Who is DENA?” led by Jim Logan. The afternoon allowed time for solitude, prayer, and rest, reinforcing their spiritual and professional callings. The evening ended with a “World Café” discussion on teaching experiences, facilitated by Justin Martineau, followed by a community night prayer and social gathering.
The final day included a session on “St. Joseph as a Model of Lasallian Spirituality,” facilitated by Br. Daniel Gardner, FSC. The retreat concluded with a sending forth prayer and a shared meal, leaving participants inspired to continue their sacred mission as educators.
This retreat reaffirmed the shared Lasallian purpose: to not only educate minds but also touch hearts and transform lives, embodying the words of St. John Baptist de La Salle: “God has chosen you to do His work.”
