by Ms. Maureen Delgado – La Salle Educational Center, Homestead FL
Now a 14-year-old freshman at South Dade Senior High, Kevin Reyes has attended after-school and summer programs at La Salle Educational Center (Centro La Salle) in the Homestead FL agricultural district for several years. His story embodies determination, resilience, and a deep commitment to community service.
Born to parents who migrated from Mexico to seek better opportunities, Kevin has grown up in an environment shaped by hard work and perseverance. His parents work as agricultural farm workers, toiling tirelessly to provide for their family.
Despite the challenges he faces, Kevin is enrolled in advanced classes, illustrating his intellectual curiosity and desire to challenge himself. One of his favorite subjects is mathematics, and he already envisions a degree in mechanical engineering at Florida International University.
With selflessness and compassion, Kevin is also deeply involved in community service. After school, he volunteers his time to help at Centro La Salle, where he takes on the role of soccer coach for the younger children, sharing his passion for the sport. Kevin, who also plays on soccer teams, sees soccer as a source of joy, camaraderie, and personal growth. He wishes to instill a similar passion for the sport in younger children through coaching and mentorship.
Kevin’s aspirations are deeply rooted in his desire to create a better future for himself and his family. His pursuit of academic excellence is fueled by his ambition to overcome adversity and carve out a path to success. His enthusiasm for soccer serves as a testament to his resilience, discipline, and unwavering pursuit of excellence both on and off the field.
La Salle Educational Center, with the assistance of the St. John Baptist de La Salle Fund, is proud to foster the extraordinary potential that lies within students like Kevin, waiting to be unleashed through dedication, passion, and a sense of purpose.
