Students Raise Funds for Veterans

An ergathon, a fundraising event in which rowers compete against each other, raised nearly $27,000 to purchase service dogs for injured soldiers through a donation to the Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II Memorial Fund. Lt. Zilinski, a CBA and West Point graduate, was killed in action in 2005. Two students from Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft NJ (CBA), Jack Keavey and Robert Earle, organized the event. Designed to raise awareness about wounded US service men and women, this was Jack’s community service project.

Participants competed using stationary rowing machines connected electronically. The CBA crew team, staff, students, friends, and families supported the event. “It’s an honor and a privilege to run this event in Dennis’ name. He is our CBA brother,” said Jack. Robert added, “Helping out is important to me because we are supporting deployed troops and veterans who served our country and fought for our freedom.” Lt. Zilinski’s parents, Marion & Dennis, attended the event along with their son Matt who was about to deploy to Syria with the US Army.
