CBA Lincroft student William Patterson ’27 (center, holding sign) leads
his team in the Sleep Out Against Homelessness event.
William Patterson ’27 from Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) in Lincroft, NJ, takes our Lasallian teachings to heart. As a freshman, he organized schoolwide participation in Sleep Out New Jersey, an annual event hosted by the New Jersey branch of Covenant House, an international charity that battles teen homelessness, abuse, and human trafficking.
During the event, participants sleep outside with a box and a sleeping bag to raise awareness about youth homelessness. Leading up to the event, they become “student advocates,” educating their peers and community about the work of Covenant House. William spread the word through the CBA halls and was able to get twenty-four of his fellow students to join the initiative. Together, they raised $22,000 to support the mission of Covenant House, making them one of the top three teams from across the state.
William stated, “I have been fortunate to have loving parents, food, clothes, education, and a family home. Having a bed and a safe place to lay my head at night is a gift. I hope and dream for every young child or teenager to have a place to feel safe and loved.”
