Lasallian Educators Convened for Annual Brother Luke Salm Workshop in Queens, New York 

Jamaica Estates, Queens, New York – October 15-17, 2023

Lasallians from the District of Eastern North America (DENA) convened for the annual Brother Luke Salm Workshop at Thomas Berry Place in Jamaica Estates, Queens, New York, from October 15th to 17th, 2023. This gathering brought together educators and advocates of Lasallian education to explore innovative approaches, share wisdom, and reaffirm their commitment to educating in faith.

The significance of the Luke Salm Workshop was highlighted by its dedication to enriching Christian education and evangelization among young people, providing Lasallian educators with an opportunity to renew their commitment to their vocation and make a profound impact on the District of Eastern North America. The event featured a robust schedule of discussions and sessions aimed at providing insights and fostering dialogue among participants, with notable speakers and sessions including:

• Br. William Mann, FSC: “Lasallian Spirituality”
• Br. Augustine Nicoletti, FSC: “Best Practices Applied to the Educational Landscape and its Application to the Teaching of Religion”
• James Logan: “DENA Springtide Initiative”
• Br. Paul Avvento, FSC: “Vocation Ministry within DENA: An Overview”
• Maureen O’Connell (via video): “The Long Arc of Lasallian Religious Education”

Attendees had the opportunity to engage with these distinguished speakers, share their expertise, and explore collectively new approaches to educating in faith.

Participants were encouraged to embrace the workshop’s spirit of association and respond to the Institute’s call to bring the joy of the gospel to the young people entrusted to their care. The workshop not only reflected the words of Brother Dennis Malloy, FSC but also embodied his vision of the ministry of the Word and the evangelization of young minds.
